The Colour of Beauty

The Colour of Beauty, a new short film produced by the National Film Board of Canada, explores the lack of diversity in the fashion industry. Directed by Elizabeth St Phillip, the film premiered in Vancouver on May 16 at the Museum of Vancouver.

The film follows Model Renee Thompson, who is trying to make it as a top fashion model in New York. The Jamaican born stunner has the look, the walk and the drive; but she’s caught in a world where White women represent the standard of beauty.

Is a Black model less attractive to designers, casting directors and consumers? What is the colour of beauty?
